Philosophy
"I weave a harmonious design from the styles and colors my clients love."
Biography: An interview with Donna Owens-Mitchell
Q. Donna, why did you become an interior designer?
A. My mom influenced me. She loved interior design and took me through model homes on Saturdays when I was young.
Q. Are you formally educated in interior design?
A. Yes. I studied interior design at the University of Florida and at Western Connecticut State. I am a graduate of the University of Florida and have a certificate of Interior Design from Western Connecticut State. In addition, I take eight hours of continuing education every year in interior design to maintain my certification from the state of Texas. Currently, I am enrolled in a course called "Fabulous French Furniture" as well as a course on window treatments.
Q. Do you do a lot of window treatments?
A. I do as many as I can. One window treatment I did this year, in collaboration with a colleague, is featured in the photos at the left. Another one I am particularly proud of was the living room treatment in an October 2005 showhouse.
Q. You have been involved in designing a show home then. Have you won any awards?
A. I was one of three John-William designers who collaborated on a show home in October 2005 in the Parade of Homes at Bella Montana. We won 13 of the 20 awards, including Best Interior Design and Best of Show. Our show home also received the 2005 Max award for Best Showhouse.
Q. What sets you apart as a designer? Why would someone choose you to help them with their project?
A. One thing I pride myself on is that I genuinely care about my clients. This makes me do my best for them. I find out what styles and colors they love and weave them into a harmonious design tailored to their individual vision for their home.
