Decorating for the Holidays in Taste
Do you love adding a little style to your home around the holidays? Do you sometimes struggle with tacky decorations during certain seasons? Do you want to find a way to decorate with elegance and style during key holidays throughout the year?
If you answered “yes,” then JWI is ready to help you get there! We’ve got economical and stylish tricks for making your house look glam during Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukah.
Here’s how to get started on your seasonal decorating with style:
Halloween doesn’t mean you need to turn your home into a haunted house. Instead, upgrade your traditional pumpkin porch by placing several glazed ceramic pumpkins on your porch with live mums interspersed throughout. Not only does this help you avoid rotting produce as the weeks carry on into October, but it gives you decorating pumpkins that you can store and use year after year.
Bring your Halloween ceramic pumpkins instead to make a gorgeous family dinner table centerpiece for Thanksgiving. Add wide, white candles in hurricane glass jars. Fill apothecary jars of varying heights with metallic acorns that you can spray paint and real cranberries covered in water. You’ll have a gorgeous yet still budget-friendly spread that will be a delight to gaze at while eating the big Thanksgiving meal.
The Jewish Festival of Lights known as Hanukkah is the perfect season in December to add gorgeous blue decorations to your foyer as guests arrive. Typically the colors of Hanukkah are silver, white, dark blue and light blue. We love the foyer entryway table as the spot to decorate for Hanukkah and to welcome guests during festivities. Place a menorah on your foyer table. Beside it, add a tall apothecary jar and fill it with candies of different blue hues. If you have a mirror above your foyer table, hang a wreath made of blue silk ribbons at the crown of the mirror, and let the ribbons hang elegantly down the sides.
Decorating your house during Christmas can come with a gorgeous result if you keep it metallic and white. One of our favorite ways to evoke that snowy, Christmas feeling is to fill small glass terrariums with tiny Styrofoam balls and then place miniature house ornaments in them. Line these on your foyer table or on your mantle.
You also can fill several apothecary jars of varying heights with metallic Christmas ornaments. This is easy and budget-friendly. But these on a hallway table or along your piano top.
Finally, use the foliage and produce that you have around your home to bring Christmas inside. For example, cut a few springs of Holly and berries and place them in a cookie jar or on a cake plate to create an enclosed floral display that makes a beautiful centerpiece.
Create a floral arrangement out of the holly sprigs and put bud vases in your bathrooms. Fill a fruit bowl with oranges decorated with cloves. Fill a hurricane glass with red, shiny apples and cinnamon sticks. The possibilities are endless. Just think of the resources you have around you that you put to a festive use!
